The parish was founded in 1873. It is a good example of Victorian Gothic style and is a Grade Two listed building.
It was extensively renovated in 1999 with the help of a major grant from English Heritage.
The Church of Our Lady Help of Christians was constructed in 1891 and was consecrated in 1906.
